SOUL NUTRITION E-NEWSLETTER
MARCH 2013

Connecting To The Month Of Freedom

The scent of spring is in the air, the extra hour of daylight brings to us the awareness of the new life emerging in nature. It reminds us that we are not bound to what was before and we are free to choose. We are not enslaved by habits, limiting belief systems, expectations of others and self perceptions. Just like in nature we begin again with a freshness and newness, full of wonder and endless possibilities.
Part of this freshness and newness should encompass the power of our speech. Therefore, we need to be mindful of our words, not only to others but to ourselves. This is another way in which we can heal ourselves this month.
"It is through our speech that we redeem or enslave ourselves" -Melinda Ribner.
Avoid gossip, telling lies, cursing, negative self-talk and insults. Focus on positive aspects of yourself and those around you. Try to not gossip or say anything derogatory about anyone, including yourself for an entire month.

Share with us your experiences and have a chance to win a signed copy of my book, Feed your Body, Feed your Soul.

We would love to hear from you. Please give us feedback and share your experiences!
We are always looking for writers to share their thoughts and personal experiences.

Spirit: Female Energy

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" - Dr. Seuss

I woke up this morning, put on The Today Show and heard the story of a woman, named, Susan Spencer-Wendel who became paralyzed from ALS, also known as  Lou Gehrig's Disease. She typed her memoir about the beauty of living, letter by letter on her iPhone, using just her right thumb; all of her other fingers had stopped working by then. She knows she is dying and had decided to spend one of her last years doing the things on her to-do-list, including writing a book. "I am writing about accepting, about living with joy and dying with joy and laughing a helluva lot in the process."

So what's on your bucket list, your to-do-list before you die? Why do we wait until we are dying to do the things we really long to do? Why do we get so caught up in our everyday stuff that we forget what our real purpose is?

Are you benefiting from your core training?

Written by Frances Michaelson

The other day I received an email from a fitness enthusiast , saying that he did 117 abdominal crunches a night, yet was experiencing no strength gains. My immediate reaction was "Yikes", wondering if his back and neck were not destroyed from way too many repetitions of the same movement pattern.

I honestly thought that by now most people realized that MORE is not always better.
There are many benefits to having a strong core area, but it is very important to strike a balance in the muscle groups you are targeting.

The most important thing to understand is that our core possesses two sets of muscles with two different roles.

Re-committing to commitment

Winter blahs, yes, we all have them. Whether it is labeled as seasonal affective disorder or simply the need for sunshine, there is a lack of energy in the air. The beginning of March is not quite spring and a lot of us are craving warmth and sunshine and feeling down because of it.

What are some ways we can tackle this seasonal mental and physical fatigue?

Taking yoga classes has always helped me to feel stronger in my mind and body. In my Friday Hatha class a few weeks ago, my long-standing instructor shared a mantra with the participants that helped me re-focus my energy.
