Connecting To The Month Of Staying Positive

Greetings!

The energy of this month is about inner renewal and tapping into the infinite potential within us. This is the time to plan and conceptualize new projects and plant new seeds. The trees are still barren, yet we trust that the sap will begin to flow and the cycle of life will produce new leaves, flowers and fruit. As our creative juices start flowing our ideas will soon be actualized, but we need to be patient. We all face challenges and the reasons for them may not be clear, but the inner work we need to do to overcome them is never in vain. Sometimes we lose faith when things don't happen immediately but things take time to manifest. There is comfort in knowing that once the idea or seed is planted, the process has begun.

Before the holidays I went for allergy testing to find out what foods I have become intolerant to. To my surprise the list was really long. My body began to react to my favorite food choices including my beloved chocolate! It has an intelligence and knows what is best for me, even when I try to rebel.
Now, when thinking about what to eat, I need to ask my body what it wants at that moment. I find this to be really challenging because I want to give in to my cravings. I hear this from my clients all the time.  Why is it that we have trouble saying no to the foods that are not right for us?

Leap Into Your Best New Year

I don't make New Year's resolutions anymore. In the past, I would jump head-first into the typical good intentions - eat a better diet, hit the gym 3 times a week, stop spending so much money and relax more. By the time January 8th rolled around I'd be back eating leftover shortbread cookies and going out for pizza or Chinese food, my gym pass would be "lost", my bank account would still be waiting for its first deposit and I'd be working until 2:00 AM six days a week.
I decided that the only way to break out of the holidays' overindulgent cycle was two-fold: moderate my splurges during the festivities (having a few of my mom's special shortbreads and a piece of her challah which I love, instead of a slab of pumpkin pie and a wedge of nutty, dried-fruit laden panettone which I only ate out of ceremony). On January 2nd, I will reset my lifestyle and eating patterns to clear my brain and body of the holiday stress.

Yummy Green Smoothie Recipes


Green Shake with Berries

Fill  your  blender    full  of  kale  or  spinach
1  cup  frozen or fresh  berries of  your  choice
1  banana
1  cup pure filtered water to blend to  consistency of  your choice. Add a few ice cubes  if  desired
Blend all ingredients together.

Green Shake with Apple and Banana

1  bunch watercress
1  green apple
1  lime
1  cucumber
4  mint  leaves
1  banana
1  cup pure filtered  water to blend to  consistency of  your choice. Add a few ice cubes  if  desired.

Understanding food, mood and addictions is an important part of any nutritional therapy. Any nutritional imbalances or a lack of nutrients needs to be addressed first, in order for other approaches to be effective.

Getting to the root cause of imbalances will help you release blockages through an understanding of your emotional state that leads to patterns of behavior with food.

This 15 hour weekend course explores:

The emotional connections between why we choose the foods we eat, how much we eat, who we are feeding, and how we truly feel inside.

How food affects our emotional state and the neurotransmitters and hormones involved.

Understanding attitudes, beliefs, self-perceptions and emotions and how they are all interconnected and play a role in our attitude towards food.

How our relationship with food has become one of compulsions, fears, anxieties and guilt.

The addictive nature of certain foods.

Addressing physical and emotional cravings

Gaining an understanding of food addictions and developing the tools to overcome them.
